Random thought

I really wish that facetious and feces had the same root (they don't, Anne helped me check).

... it would be cool, though.

I had always thought they did. Now I'm a bit disappointed...

Consider that cockamamie is to facetious as cacamamie is to fecesious... and that you can be in jest, jockularly fecesious ....

HA HA!!! I remembered your page! By the way, i had to read this random thought twice to see that it was, in fact, FECES.... and not FACES. I got a laugh out of that. Say hi to Anne for me.

Hello. Once I saw Alonzo the Red Avenger and BrotherAdam had piped-in . . . well, I just couldn't stay in "lurker" mode.

So, does "facetious" relate to "facet" or "face"? I'm wondering if facetious was originally something like "deliberately showing a false face".

I don't recall what Anne's dictionary said, but dictionary.com says it comes from the latin facetus (witty) while face is from the latin facies. Facet is from Old French and is a diminutive of face.

Since the only latin I know is from choral mass/requiem music, I can't really do any more analysis than that ;-)

:)

So, did you get linux up and running on your laptop?
